Jammu, Feb 03 ; The Government Nursing College in Sopore, established in March 2021, remains non-functional to date due to pending administrative formalities and staff recruitment, the Jammu and Kashmir government informed the legislative assembly on Tuesday.
The details as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) were provided by the Health and Medical Education Department in a written reply to an unstarred question raised by Sopore legislator Irshad Rasool Kar during the ongoing budget session.
The college, sanctioned under Government Order No. 233-JK(HME) of 2021 with 13 posts (7 teaching and 6 non-teaching), has yet to commence operations. The building is still under the physical possession of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Baramulla, and has not been formally handed over to the Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla, its designated administrative authority.
Recruitment for all sanctioned posts is currently “under process” with the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), the reply stated.
According to the government, the delay in the handover is attributed to the continued functioning of an existing Nursing School of the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir from the same premises.
The government further informed that the construction of a student hostel will be considered only after the enrollment of the first batch of students. The Director of Health Services, Kashmir, and the Principal of GMC Baramulla have been directed to resolve the handover issue in a “time-bound manner” in consultation with local legislators.
All formalities for the college’s affiliation with the University of Kashmir have been processed by GMC Baramulla. (KNS)
