Srinagar, Feb 21 : Several weather stations in Kashmir recorded record-breaking maximum temperatures for the month of February on Saturday, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said.
Srinagar registered an all-time highest maximum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius for February, surpassing the previous record of 20.6 degrees Celsius recorded on February 24, 2016.
Gulmarg, the ski resort in north Kashmir, also recorded its highest-ever February maximum temperature at 11.5 degrees Celsius, breaking the earlier record of 11.4 degrees Celsius set on February 11, 1993.
Kokernag recorded 18.3 degrees Celsius, which is the second-highest maximum temperature ever recorded in the month of February at the station. The all-time February record for Kokernag stands at 18.4 degrees Celsius, recorded on February 29, 2016.
The MeT Centre said the spike in temperatures is part of an ongoing warm spell under dry weather conditions. It added that maximum temperatures are likely to rise further by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius at many places across Jammu and Kashmir during the next six days.
No major precipitation is forecast in the immediate period, officials said.(KNS).
