Srinagar, July 5 : The Kashmir Valley experienced unusually high temperatures on Saturday, with Srinagar recording its third-highest maximum temperature ever at 37.4°C, according to the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar.
This intense heatwave marks one of the hottest July days on record for the city.
The current temperature falls just short of the previous highs: 37.7°C recorded on July 5, 1953, and the all-time highest of 38.3°C on July 10, 1946.
The extreme heat has sparked concerns about rising temperatures in the region, which is typically known for its moderate summer climate.
Other parts of Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed record-breaking temperatures. Kukernag, a popular hill destination, recorded 34.0°C, making it the second-highest temperature for the month of July in the station’s history.
The previous record of 34.1°C was set just last year, on July 28, 2024.
In Pahalgam, known for its cool weather and scenic landscapes, the temperature soared to 31.6°C, the highest ever recorded at the station.
The earlier record was 31.5°C, noted on July 21, 2024.(KNS).
