Two newly elected MLAs take oath in J&K Assembly

Srinagar, Nov 21 : Two newly elected members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly took oath on Friday, administered by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather at the Assembly complex.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Muntazir Mehdi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Devyani Rana were sworn in at 11:00 am, the Kashmir News Service(KNS) has learnt.

Mehdi was elected from the Budgam Assembly segment, while Rana won from Nagrota, a constituency earlier represented twice by her late father, Devinder Singh Rana.

With the completion of the oath ceremony, the total strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has now reached 90.

The National Conference is the single-largest party with 41 members, followed by the BJP with 29, Congress with six and the PDP with four.

The Peoples Conference, CPI (M) and Aam Aadmi Party each have one MLA, while seven members in the House are independents.(KNS).
