BARAMULLA, Feb 22 : The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) of Baramulla, Mudasir Ahmad, said on Thursday that road safety awareness is a collective societal responsibility and called for proactive public engagement on the issue.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Mudasir detailed a conducted road safety show. “The purpose of this awareness drive was to educate the general public,” he stated. The event featured a local district-level cyclist, who competes nationally, to help demonstrate safety protocols.

ARTO Mudasir stated that awareness campaigns have been running throughout the month via various mediums, including roadshows. He announced an expansion of these initiatives to educational institutions. “The department will now conduct awareness programmes at the school level and even visit coaching institutes,” he said, underscoring the goal of fostering public awareness on road safety and accident prevention.

Earlier on Wednesday, in conversation with News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), ARTO Mudasir Ahmad had highlighted the imperative of disciplined and responsible driving. “Everyone must return home safely, and that is only possible when drivers strictly follow traffic rules,” he said.

He said that the Transport Department would persist in conducting traffic awareness programmes and urged passengers to stay informed about the rules applicable while travelling in both commercial and private vehicles.

ARTO Mudasir further cautioned that traffic regulations are subject to regular updates and warned that habitual offenders engaged in reckless driving would face stringent action, including the cancellation or suspension of their driving licences as per existing norms. (KNS)
