Srinagar, Oct 06 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for by-elections to the vacant assembly seats of Nagrota and Budgam in Jammu and Kashmir, with polling set for November 11 and counting of votes on November 14.

The ECI hold a conference at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar said that the actual polling will be conducted on November 11, and the counting of votes will take place on November 14.

The scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22, followed by the last date for withdrawal of candidatures on October 24.

The last date for filing nominations has been set for October 20.

The Nagrota and Budgam assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir have been vacant since October 2024, following Omar Abdullah’s retention of Ganderbal and the death of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana. By-elections, legally due by April 2025, were delayed by the ECI, citing security and weather issues.(KNS)
