New Delhi, July 24 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced the government will establish fast-track courts to expedite trials in examination paper leak cases, declaring that those who attempt to destroy the future of India’s youth “will not be spared.”
The Prime Minister emphasised that safeguarding the welfare and future of young people remains the government’s foremost priority. He stated that the proposed fast-track courts would ensure speedy trials and strict punishment for both individuals and organised groups involved in leaking examination papers .
The announcement comes amid widespread public anger and intensified student-led protests in the national capital over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in competitive examinations, including the prestigious NEET-UG 2026 medical entrance test . Demonstrators have been demanding accountability, stronger safeguards for examinations, and strict action against those responsible for jeopardising the careers of lakhs of aspirants.
PM Modi had earlier described paper leaks as a “grave sin,” asserting that the government is committed to making the examination system more secure and foolproof. He called for the strictest possible action against offenders and urged political parties not to politicise the future of students .
India already has the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, which makes the leakage of question papers and answer keys a punishable offence . The law provides imprisonment of three to five years for certain offences, while organised examination fraud can attract five to ten years in jail along with a minimum fine of ?1 crore . A high-level panel was also set up earlier to recommend reforms in the examination process and data security protocols .
However, concerns have persisted over delays in investigations and prosecution. The government’s latest move aims to ensure that those accused in paper leak cases are brought to trial swiftly, preventing cases from remaining pending for years. (KNS)
